Life Memberships Conferred in 2008

24 February 2009

At the NPA’s general meeting of 11 December 2008, the following Life Memberships were conferred; engraved plaques were presented by the Deputy Mayor Cr Barry Thompson, on behalf of the Naremburn Progress Association.

David Lendrum

David Lendrum is granted Life Membership of the Naremburn Progress Association for his commitment to and valuable contribution to Naremburn and its residents over a 20 year period.
David served as Association Secretary 1989-1994, as President from 1996-1998. During the past 2 years David has been Vice President. His greatest, long-reaching influence was his organisation of a protest against Gordon Rugby Club’s proposal of a grandstand and playing facilities on Bicentennial Reserve in the area adjacent to Willoughby Road. This successful action established a balance of active and passive use of this valuable local open space. David was honoured by WCC in the NPA’s Centenary Celebrations in 2001 with a plaque marking his contribution to the local community. He brings his valuable professional expertise to the NPA’s DA Sub-Committee and the School for Naremburn Working Party.

Beryl Batterham

Beryl Batterham is granted Life Membership of the Naremburn Progress Association for her commitment to and valuable contribution to Naremburn and its residents over a 20 year period.
Beryl moved to Garland Road in 1972 and joined the NPA in 1989. Beryl has great enthusiasm for Naremburn and the work of the NPA. We believe that Beryl is, in part, responsible for the 15 of the Association’s 101 financial members in 2008 being from Garland Road. Her community commitment is widespread; she has worked at the Willoughby City Information Centre, Home Help Volunteer, Linen Service, is an active member of the Naremburn Over 50s Club and, for some years, has been the NPA’s representative on the Community Centre User Group.
Beryl has actively campaigned for preservation of the Naremburn Shops, better parking controls to assist local residents, street tree planting. Despite her 80 plus years, Beryl was the Convenor of the Bicentennial Bush Regeneration Group and represents bush regenerators on the Bicentennial Reserve and Flat Rock Gully Advisory Group.

Margaret Willington

Margaret Willington is granted Life Membership of the Naremburn Progress Association for her committed service to Naremburn and its residents over a 14 year period.
Margaret joined the NPA in 1994 and served as Treasurer in 2002. She has been an Executive Committee Members on a number of occasions. Margaret was on the organising committee for the NPA’s Centenary Celebrations in 2001. On the NPA’s incorporation in June 2004, Margaret performed the functions that assisted the Public Officer, including the membership register, and, prior to the use of email, Margaret co-ordinated delivery of the Association’s minutes. Margaret is a valued member of the Naremburn Over 50s Club, holding Executive positions; recognised by Willoughby City as its 2004 Citizen of the Year; in 2002, for her service to the community, she received the Centenary Medal from the Hon Joe Hockey MP, representing the Prime Minister.
