Hear the rollicking rhythms of Henry Lawson, Banjo Patterson and other famous bush poets at Henry Lawson’s cave in Naremburn.
Fittingly the event is held at Henry Lawson’s cave in Naremburn where reportedly Henry used to sleep off the excesses after a day of spouting poetry in exchange for beers at the nearby Willoughby and Crows Nest Hotels.
This year is the 26th anniversary of the poetry reading at the cave which started from humble beginnings but has grown to become hugely popular.
The evening will have readers Don Swonnell, Peter Carmody and Diana Bates bringing to life a variety of poems interspersed with music and bush ballads performed by Greg Dimmock, Alex Cronin and Jill Brown. You can even elect to read one of your own poems in the punters section. (If you wish to read a poem please advise when booking or contact us directly.)
To top it all off, Willoughby Council will serve tea and damper for supper. You are encouraged to bring your own cushion to sit on and a mug if you wish. What better way to spend a balmy summer evening in the big smoke with memories from the bush?
